June Week 4: 100% EFFORT – Be a Doer, Not a Talker

“Some people dream of success … while others wake up and work hard at it.”

– Unknown

At Lewis Karate in Barrie, we see two types of people—talkers and doers. Talkers are full of ideas and dreams, but they rarely act. Doers? They get to work. They face obstacles head-on and put 100% effort into reaching their goals.

Success doesn't come from wishing—it comes from showing up with discipline, determination, and sweat.

Effort Is the Fuel Behind Success

We teach our students—young and old—that talent may open the door, but effort builds the house. Each time a student puts in 100% effort during class, they’re building the mindset of a winner.

Here’s how we help students shift from dreaming to doing:

✅ Learning to embrace tough drills, not avoid them

✅ Staying focused and finishing what they start

✅ Taking personal responsibility for their growth

✅ Working hard, even when no one is watching

Effort is what makes progress happen—and character grow.

Family Support: How to Make the Lesson Stick

Reinforce this week’s message by starting conversations at home:

  • “What’s something you’ve been talking about doing but haven’t started yet?”
  • “What’s one action you could take today to move toward that goal?”
  • “How do you feel when you really try your best at something?”

Asking these questions builds self-awareness and helps children (and adults!) realize the value of follow-through.

Ask Your Child This Week:

  1. Do you want to be a talker or a doer? Why?
  2. What is something you tell people you want to accomplish, but haven’t done anything about?
  3. What is something you can start doing today to help you reach that goal?

At Lewis Karate, we don’t just teach kicks and punches—we shape attitudes, mindsets, and life skills that set students up for long-term success. 100% effort is our standard—and it’s what creates champions in and out of the dojo.
