February Week 2: Kids Karate and INTEGRITY

Lewis Karate – Barrie

"It’s not what we digest that makes us strong; not what we gain but what we save that makes us rich; not what we read but what we remember that makes us learned; and not what we profess but what we practice that gives us integrity." – Francis Bacon, Sr

At Lewis Karate Barrie, we teach that integrity is one of the most important values a martial artist can have. It’s easy to say the right things, but true integrity is shown in our actions. In our kids’ Karate classes in Barrie, we help students understand that being honest and doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, is the foundation of success in martial arts and in life.

Integrity starts with honesty—honesty with others and with yourself. In Karate, this means being truthful about your effort in training, giving your best in every drill, and following through on your commitments. A student with integrity doesn’t look for shortcuts or avoid hard work. Instead, they face challenges head-on and work to improve, no matter how long it takes.

Integrity also means making the right choices, even when they’re difficult. It’s easy to blame others for mistakes or make excuses when things don’t go our way, but true martial artists take responsibility for their actions. In our Barrie Karate program for kids, we teach students that strong personal values guide our decisions—both on the mats and in everyday life.

Ask your child:

  1. Why is honesty an important part of integrity?
  2. What is the difference between honesty with yourself and honesty with others?
  3. How do strong personal values help you show integrity?

At Lewis Karate Barrie, we’re committed to building confident, disciplined, and respectful martial artists. If you want your child to learn valuable life lessons while training in a fun and supportive environment, enroll them in our kids’ Karate classes in Barrie today!
